The Dragon GAP Pepsi/NFL Punt Pass & Kick Competition was held last Sunday at Dragon Stadium.’In all, 37 participants from Lake Orion Schools competed in the event.?
Each participant was given an opportunity to punt, pass and kick (from a tee) a football.?
Participants were broken down into age groups and’given a score based on the distance of each try, as well as the accuracy of each try.?
The top three finishers in each age group received a ribbon, and’all of the athletes who participated received an Official NFL PPK’Certificate.?
The first place finishers automatically qualified to’advance on to the Sectional PPK Competition, to be held Saturday Oct. 13 at Boulan Park’in Troy.??
From there, the top five scores from around the state sectionals’will qualify for the’Team Championship, to be held on Dec. 9’at halftime of the Detroit Lions-Dallas Cowboys game at Ford Field.??
If athletes do exceptionally at the team competition, they may be’invited to participate in the National Championships during’halftime of the NFC Championship game in January.
In the Girls 8-9 competition, Carpenter Elementary’s Shelby Misiak recorded a 107?3? total, edging Brianna Lewis and Olivia Faber.
In the Girls 10-11 event, Scripps Middle School’s Ashley Bressman (124?4?) took first with Katie Bell placing second.
In the Boys 8-9 category, Troy Gahrs of Paint Creek Elementary (173?9?) was the big winner, followed by Randall Bressman and Jacob Turchano.
The winner of the Boys 10-11 event was Ross Moore of Pine Tree Elementary (222?4?), with Griffin Van Lear and Chris Leigh close behind.
Derek DiLaura, from Scripps, took the Boys 12-13 title (301?10?), with Damion Wilbon and Mitchell Holt placing second and third, respectively.
In the Boys 14-15 competition, an all-Lake Orion High School top three was led by Tyler Misiak (307?4?), with Devon Grenon and Joshua Narusch taking second and third.
