Four members of the Varsity Girls basketball team claimed all Flint Metro League honors for their efforts during the 2009-2010 basketball season.
Seniors Megan Tilley, Allie Laidlaw, Emily Brooks and junior Mikaela Parrish were selected for the first team, second team and honorable mention.
Tilley was the Wildcat’s lone representative on the first team all FML. She finished the season by averaging 10.5 points per game, shooting 39% from behind the three point line and 76.5% from the free-throw line.
‘Megan had an outstanding season for us,? said Girls Head Coach Al Poynter. ‘She was one of the best shooters in the league and she improved her ballhandling and defense, and was a great leader and teammate who kept everyone loose.?
Tilley joins Fenton’s Samantha Granger, Gabrielle Rivette and Molly Varner, Swartz Creek’s Jordan Jones, Lapeer West’s Marisa Liburdi and Clio’s Kamara Sudberry as the first team all-FML.
Representing the Wildcats on the second team was Parrish, who joined the program last summer. She averaged 14 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, and shot nearly 55% on her field goals for the season.
‘She was a big factor in us turning our season around and winning nine of 10 games at one point. As a senior next year, we will be looking for her leadership and improvement as we enter the OAA,? said Poynter.
Second team all-FML included Cassie Diaz of Lapeer East, Mary-Kathryn Fiebernitz of Linden, Chloe Maxwell of Swartz Creek, Tori Nowiski of Clio, Lindsay Thams of Lapeer West and Ashley Xiong of Holly.
Laidlaw and Brooks were honorable mentions for the all-FML League.
Even though Laidlaw was dealing with an injured knee for the entire season, she was still able to average 6.1 points, 2.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Poynter was impressed with her attitude during the season. ‘She never once complained or gave less than 100% effort; she was a warrior for us this past season whose contributions go way beyond the stats and she will be incredibly hard to replace.?
Brooks finished the season by averaging 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game during her senior season.
Poynter said that she was the team’s defensive leader and took on the challenge of guarding the opponents best player without complaining.
‘She is another player whose contributions go way beyond the numbers, and her pleasant demeanor and relentless effort everyday in practice will be greatly missed,? said Poynter.
