With his move to county commissioner set to take place in January, Orion Township Trustee Mike Gingell submitted a letter of resignation to the board, effective Dec. 29.
‘I have very much enjoyed the past six years I have served the community as a trustee and am proud of the accomplishments the board has obtained over this period,? Gingell read from his letter.
Gingell noted some of the things the board accomplished in the past six years, including keeping General Motors in the community, bringing in businesses, obtaining a new township park, and more.
‘While I will miss serving the citizens as a trustee, I am excited to begin my new role as county commissioner on their behalf,? Gingell said. ‘I trust we will be able to add to the list of accomplishments.?
The resignation announcement will give the board ample time to find a replacement. Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said they have until 45 days after the vacancy to fill the position.
The township is currently advertising for the position, asking all interested parties to submit letters of interest and resumes to the Clerk’s office by Jan. 9
‘Eventually, the six remaining members of the board sit down,? Dywasuk explained. ‘Any of us can make a recommendation.?
‘Basically, it takes four votes from the board to pick the new trustee,? he added.
Gingell is not allowed to take part in the process of picking his successor.
Should the board fail to pick someone in the 45-day time frame, they would be required to notify the governor, who schedules an election at the township’s expense.
