Girls track team dominates Swartz Creek, Linden

At their first league meet of the season April 16, the Oxford Varsity girl’s track team came out on top with two wins, although the boys did put in a good effort.
‘Overall, I was very impressed with our athletes to be able to compete so well today after coming off spring break,? said Head Coach Andrew McDonald.
The girls beat Linden 85-52 and Swartz Creek 101-35, taking many first place positions in the many events.
Highlights include sophomore Kate Wolanin’s 100-meter hurdle (17.8 sec.); senior captain Jacqui Sylva’s 100-meter dash (13.65 sec.); junior Katherine Bosetti’s pole vault (8?4?); and the 800-meter relay team of Sylva, sophomore Keeona Ives, sophomore Kara Charles and junior Hannah George (1:51.82).
Bosetti’s 8?4? vault not only took first place against both schools, but it set a new OHS record.
Sophomore Molly Bonfiglio’s 7?6? vault was good enough to claim second place against both schools.
The girls are now 2-0 in the Flint Metro League and overall.
For the boys, they lost to Linden 62-75 and Swartz Creek 47-89.
Highlights include senior captain James Nelson’s 200-meter dash (24.12 sec.); freshman Sir Ralph Rodriguez’s shot put (43?3??); and the 800-meter relay team of senior Roderick Skeete, junior Mike Stumph, senior Andrew Klimbal and Nelson (1:34.97).
Sophomore Kevin Jickling took second against Linden and Swartz Creek with a 10?6? pole vault. Sophomore Adam Westmoreland took third against both schools with 10?6? vault (a personal best).
The boys are now 0-2 in the FML and overall. Both teams take on Clio and Lapeer West tonight at home at 4 p.m.
Update: At the Milford Coed Relays April 19, Oxford finished third out of 13 schools in the pole vault competition and 9th overall in the entire event. Bosetti vaulted 8?6? breaking the school record she set earlier last week. Bonfiglio vaulted 7?6?, Jickling 11?0? (a personal best) and Westmoreland 10?6?.
The vaulters had a combined 37?6? in the competition.
