Golfers douse Dragon’s fire, take fourth in Lapeer Tune-Up

Mother nature can keep the varsity golf team from getting on the course and practicing, but she can’t stop the team’s excellent play as the golfers began their season this past week.
Despite not being able to get on the golf course, the Wildcats were able to defeat rival Lake Orion 163-168 on Tuesday, April 12 at Boulder Pointe Golf Course.
‘Anytime we can beat Orion it’s a good feeling,? varsity golf coach Terry Kelley said.
‘Orion is picked to be one of the better teams in the county, so for us to beat them on their home course was (good),? he said.
Leading scorers for the Wildcats were Doug Piesko and Nick Hocker with 40s. Justen Crouse finished with a 41 and Josh Hosking shot a 42.
On Thursday, the Wildcats traveled to Lapeer Country club to partake in the Lapeer Tune-Up and came home a respectable fourth, eight stokes out of first place with a 333.
‘For our boys, I can call it an off-day, but when you can have an off-day and still come home fourth out of 20, I think that is a decent day.?
Chapman led the way with a 77 for holes.
Utica Ford won with a 325.
This week the golfers battled Lutheran High North on Tuesday, April 19, Lapeer East on Wednesday, April 20 and West Bloomfield on Thursday, April 21. All the matches are at Devils Ridge Country Club and begin at 3:15 p.m.
