Golfers finish 2nd in tourney

The wet weather continued to torment the varsity boys golf team as they had to play in the Oakland County Division Two Golf Tournament at Pontiac Municipal Golf Course on Monday, April 25.
The Wildcats battled their way through the rain soaked golf course to come home with a second place finish, shooting a 303.
They finished eight strokes behind tournament winner Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, who shot a 295.
However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the Wildcats as Doug Piesko came home as the medalist for the event, shooting an 18-hole score of 66.
Other scores for the Wildcats included Justen Crouse with a 77, Josh Hosking with a 78, Nick Hocker with an 80 and Nolan Chapman shot an 82.
‘We had hoped to win and we thought we could win this thing just off of the caliber of players we had, but we didn’t realize Stoney Creek would be as tough as they are,? head coach Terry Kelley said.
‘It’s pretty competitive. These two teams that finished right behind us are from our division of the OAA, so we know it is going to be tough all the way along and we have to be our best everyday,? he added.
The Wildcats took on Macomb Lutheran High North on Monday, April 18 and won 164-170. Piesko and Chapman both shot a 39 for the Wildcats, while Hosking and Hocker each had a 43 for Oxford.
‘It was an absolutely miserable, rainy cold day. One of the worst we had this spring,? Kelley said. ‘I thought anyone who could break 45 that day would really do something, and they all did, so that was cool.?
This match couldn’t be postponed because of the weather due to so many previous matches being rescheduled, Kelley said.
The Wildcats currently sit at 2-0 overall. Their upcoming games include Avondale, who finished third at the Oakland County meet, on Tuesday, with additional games on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Saturday they also participate in the first OAA league meet. These matches are all weather permitting.
