Have mercy

A 10-2 mercy of Avondale last Saturday ensured the Dragon hockey team of first place in the OAA II.
The team began its week with a 8-2 victory over Berkley, giving them an outside chance to clinch should Troy lose to Bloomfield (in a game that took place around the same time as the LO/Avondale contest).
Bloomfield’s upset, coupled with Lake Orion’s victory, gave the squad the title a bit earlier than expected.
‘That was kind of a nice surprise,? said Assistant Coach Mike Wahoski.
Lake Orion was led on the week by a pair of hat tricks from John Costigan. Cody Wendell and Kevin Kranker each scored three times.
Peter Levandowski got the win in net against Berkley, while Jason Stross took that honor versus Avondale.
The Dragons improved to 18-3-2 overall and 13-1-1 in the league.
Their 27 points are an insurmountable lead with just one game remaining before the playoffs begin.
‘Our boys were pretty reserved,? Wahoski said. ‘Maybe we’ll try to do something to celebrate it at home this weekend.?
Lake Orion will host Troy Athens at 6 p.m. on Saturday on ‘senior night.?
