Dear Editor,
My son was born with aortic valve stenosis. It is a narrowing of the aortic valve that impedes blood flow from the heart to the body. Yes, as new parents this is as terrifying as it sounds. He is now 18 months old and it has been the joy of my life to watch him learn and grow each day.
His heart will require bi-yearly testing to monitor his condition. The doctors have advised us it is likely he will require heart surgery before he reaches adulthood. My wife, who works as an OR nurse in Brighton, has been amazing through even the hardest times.
Together we’d like to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who have helped our son. For us, health care isn’t political, it’s personal. And if it’s not enough to worry about the health of a loved one, there’s always the question of “how are we going to pay for this?”
I would personally like to thank U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin for her continued support to expand the ACA and prevent my son from ever being denied coverage for a pre-existing condition. For her sponsorship of the real time benefits act, that will increase transparency and keep health care costs down.
For her vote in support of HR3, that will lower the cost of prescription drugs that are essential for the health of millions of Americans. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, and trust you to do what’s right for the citizens of your district and all Americans.
