The Clarkston Varsity Baseball team opened the season going 1-1 against Walled Lake Northern on Saturday.
“Overall I liked the way we competed and battled back after being down,” said Addison Turk, head coach. “As a coach, that’s all you can ask for.”
They won their first game, 9-8.
“We did a good job battling back after falling behind to get the win,” said Turk. “We played sloppy defensively but that’s to be expected early in the season.”
Matt Smith was 2-for-5 in the first game with a three run home run and had four RBIs. Ryan Witt was 3-for-5 with a double. Brady Krcziok was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Ben Bacon went 3-for-4.
Trevor Garrett had the win in relief with five strikeouts.
The Wolves lost the second game, 3-1.
“Their pitcher did a good job of keeping us off balance at the plate,” Turk said. “We really couldn’t get anything going offensively until the seventh inning. We had a chance but came up short.”
Krcziok was 2-for-4 with a double. Mason King was 1-for-3 with an RBI single. Sam Case pitched and went five innings striking out two.
“We’re really just looking to get better week by week and building to play our best baseball by the end of the season,” Turk said.
The Wolves opened the week against Bloomfield Hills.
They head to Stoney Creek on Wednesday, 4:30 p.m. Then, host Stoney Creek on Monday, April 19 in a double header, 4 p.m. ~WARP
