Hopes for OAA title sink at division meet

Oxford’s league title hopes for girls varsity golf sank like a golf ball struck into the middle of a lake following a subpar showing at the second Oakland Activities Association White division meet on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
According to girls varsity golf head coach Terry Kelley, the lady Wildcats finished a dissapointing sixth out of eight teams at the invite at Bald Mountian Golf Course.
Oxford would shoot a 402 for 18 holes, nearly 20 strokes above their season average.
Individually, Kyla Kurczewski was the Wildcats medalist with her posted score of 95. Hannah Beebe followed with a 98, while Emily Cleland fired 100 and Claire Wolanin followed with a 109.
Kelley said he and his girls were disappointed in the outcome of the tournament and the fact they lost their chance for a league title.
He added that he was ‘mystified? and couldn’t understand how his girls shot so poorly during the event.
Kelley ruled out the playing conditions being a major factor because every single girl had to play in them. The only thing he could think of was the fact it was the first time his girls had ever played the course.
However, the season was not a total loss as the Wildcats continued to have a perfect dual-meet record following a seven stroke victory over Bloomfield Hills Lahser on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
Oxford won 186-193 behind Kurczewski’s 42. Cleland followed with a 44, while Beebe fired a 49 and Riley Hayes shot a 51 to lead the Wildcats.
