There was a bit of excitement in downtown Oxford late Saturday afternoon when a car on M-24 burst into flames.
According to Oxford First Assistant Fire Chief Pete Scholtz, the 1995 Pontiac Grand Am was heading south on M-24 when it stalled in front of Curves and Wilson & Associates Architects.
When the driver attempted to restart the vehicle, there was a loud ‘pop? followed by flames under the hood, Scholtz said.
‘Nothing in the passenger compartment,? the assistant chief noted. ‘It was all confined to the engine.?
It took firefighters about five minutes to extinguish the flames.
Special thanks to quick-thinking Karen Williams, co-owner of Williams Art Glass Studio, Inc. for rushing outside to snap these great photos.
