In the early morning hours of October 14, officers and the Independence Township Fire Department responded to the 5000 block of Oak Park Drive for a report of a house totally engulfed in flames.
The Independence Fire Department requested the assistance of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit.
Both occupants of the house, a 79-year-old female and an 80-year-old male from the City of the Village of Clarkston, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
“At this point, the cause is undetermined,” Independence Township Fire Chief Mitch Petterson said last week.
One firefighter suffered a knee injury battling the blaze and was treated at a local ER before being released to recover at home.
According to multiple social media posts, the couple lost everything in the fire.
