Icers beat Clio

After a rough batch of losses, the Oxford varsity hockey team beat Clio 6-1 last Saturday, which the coach called the team’s ‘strongest game of the year.?
Brian Simpson had a hat trick and one assist, Tim Marney had one goal and two assists, Justin Ziegelbaur and Alex Ignagni both and two assists each.
Elliot Wicker, Zach Gunnels and Matt Zaun each had one assist for the night, and goals were also scored by Ben Mcloskey and Will Buday.
The win against Clio came after a non-league game loss against L’anse Creuse North (2-6), but coach David Hague said the Icers played very strong.
‘We have played our best hockey over the past two weeks and have improved every single night,? Hague said. ‘This team has tremendous heart and determination, and it’s starting to pay off.?
Hague said his goalies have been a defensive dream and that the team’s forward lines have ‘really come together.?
Oxford will take on Fenton on Saturday at the Troy Sports Arena, which Hague said should be exciting.
