Icers pound Clio, fall to Troy

After a couple games in which the offense sputtered, the Wildcats were able to break loose and pound Clio 10-2 Jan. 16.
‘It was a nice win for our team,? said Head Coach Dave Hague.
The Wildcats jumped out early by scoring six goals in the opening period, much to the delight of Hague.
‘We started out strong and that was important. Our puck movement was strong and we were able to generate more shots than we have recently,? he said.
Oxford killed any hopes of a Mustang comeback by adding four more goals in the second period, building a 10-2 lead with one period to play.
Senior Blaine Marney had three goals and one assist, while freshman Jimmy Wallington recorded two goals and two assists in the game.
Sophomore Alex Kaks had three assists in the game and junior Matt Reid chipped in two goals for the Wildcats.
Earlier in the week the Wildcats found themselves in a heated battle with the Troy Colts on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Oxford suffered a 3-2 loss in a game underwent numerous momentum swings.
The Wildcats received goals from junior Tim Perks and Kaks in the first period, giving the crowd hope that they could stop their two game losing streak.
But it wasn’t meant to be.
After Troy scored to make it 2-1, they got the game tying goal as time expired and opened the third period with the eventual game winning goal.
The Wildcats had a chance to pull even when they went on the power play with 2:11 left in the game. However, they couldn’t capitalize.
‘We kept on battling,? said Hague. ‘We had a strong finish to the game and generated several scoring opportunities, but we couldn’t find the back of the net.?
The Wildcats are now 9-4 overall. They are 5-1 in the Flint Metro League and play Lapeer West on Jan. 20 before traveling to Swartz Creek on Jan. 23.
