Kubina resigns from school board

After 10 years of dedicated service on the Oxford School Board, trustee Judy Kubina decided last week to resign.
The Oxford resident said she has gone back to school to pursue a career in paralegal at Oakland University and wasn’t able to keep up with her many duties.
‘It’s just become more difficult for me to juggle my studies, my family and still make the commitment to the school district,? she said. ‘I’ve thought about this for a long time.?
Kubina started with the Oxford School Board in 1996 and served four years as secretary, one year as vice president one as treasurer and four as a trustee. This school year would’ve been her eleventh year on the board.
Oxford School Board President, Colleen Schultz, has known Kubina for eight years and said Kubina’s resignation is ‘very sad? and will be ‘a big loss for our district.?
‘She’s been a great mentor to me and a wonderful school board member,? she said. ‘She said ‘I’m not gonna do something that I can’t give 100 percent to.? She’s a very dedicated public servant.?
Schultz said she will miss how Kubina ‘always saw the big picture.?
Everytime Kubina went to a board meeting, she said she was learning about the district and how to make it better for the kids.
‘I guess being a part of that is what I’ll miss,? she said. ‘I’m walking away with a much better understanding of our education system and appreciation for what teachers do.?
Because of Kubina’s resignation, the board is looking for anyone interested in applying for the trustee position. Deadline for applying is 4 p.m. on Nov. 29.
