Under the guidance of first year Head Coach Gretchen Gabler and Varsity Golf Head Coach Terry Kelley, the JV Girls golf team posted a 7-0 record.
‘I was very elated at their success and their work ethic,? said Gabler.
The first event of the year was a scrimmage against Holly High School, which they won. They also played teams from Lapeer West, Kearsley, Swartz Creek, Fenton and Linden.
‘They took direction from me and Coach Kelley and applied it everyday, and they got so much better. The swings they had in the summer to the swings they had at our last match were remarkable in their improvement.?
In the teams last match against Linden, they shot a 211, which was on par with the varsity scores.
‘They got better, but they were getting better because other girls were stepping up. I think every single one of the girls scored in a match, so it wasn’t always our one, two, threes and fours,? said Gabler.
One of the things that Gabler was proud of was how the girls played by the rules and the amount of sportsmanship the girls showed.
‘They played with sportsmanship and they were concerned with their teammates and opponents,? said Gabler.
She would like the thank Oxford Hills Country Club for all the support throughout the season and Athletic Director Mike Watson for the addition of the JV team.
She wants to encourage any girl who is interested in playing high school golf to come out this summer to work on their game in order to help build the golf program as they transition to the OAA next year.
