Lady Wildcats stopped by Davison in District competition

The Oxford Varsity Volleyball team ended their season on a disappointing note with a loss to Davison in the first round of Districts this past Saturday at Lapeer East.
The Lady Cats came out strong to beat Davison 15-11 in the first game, but lost their momentum in the next two losing 8-15 and 11-15.
“We didn’t play our game offensively and Davison took advantage,” said Coach Kristi McDevitt.
Brandi Parker lead the team with 10 assists, eight kills, five service points and two aces in the loss. Lindsey Tarrant followed with 11 kills, while junior setter Ally Zonsius had six points, two aces and 12 assists. Lapeer East won the district title.
The Wildcat Ladies are graduating six seniors this year. Two year varsity members Theresa Miner, Kristi Curtis and Ali Belmonte; three year members Brandi Parker and Lindsey Tarrant; and four year varsity member Shannon Gerbe.
McDevitt said her seniors really fell into two groups this year.
“Theresa, Kristi and Ally really didn’t have a lot of play time last year,” she explained, “but they really came out this year to support and lead the team. They came in everyday and played their hardest.”
“The experienced players really led the team this year,” she continued. “Brandi, Lindsey and Shannon each had three or four years under their belts so they were able to bring that to the floor.”
McDevitt said she has five returning juniors next year, but knows that losing so many seniors with so much experience is going to be difficult.
“My seniors are awesome – I’m really going to miss them,” she said.
