After suffering its first Flint Metro League loss Tuesday night, the Oxford varsity girls basketball team is determined to beat Fenton this week.
‘We have to come out and play like the Oxford team that won four in a row over the last two weeks ? aggressive, hungry and attacking the opponent,? said Coach Al Poynter. The Ladycats lost a close one on the road against Holly 43-45.
Jessica Raisch was the leading scorer with 19 points.
On a more positive note, the team defeated Swartz Creek Friday 53-38 Friday night.
Although Swartz Creek lead Oxford 10-9 after the first quarter, they tied with 12 points at the half. The Wildcats? scoring for the third and final quarter was 17 and 15 points, respectively.
Sophomore guard Allie Laidlaw and senior forward Kelsey Oliver each had 13 points. Oliver also had five steals.
Junior captain Brooke Bocquet had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Senior captain Amanda Teller scored four points and had five rebounds for the night.
Sophomore guard/center Emily Brooks had two points, while junior captain Joelle Harms had six and junior guard/forward Cassi Archer had three.
Oxford’s record is now 4-3 overall and 3-1 in the FML.
They travel to Fenton Friday night for a 6 p.m. game, where Poynter said their plan is to ‘play hard, force turnovers and minimize our own turnovers.?
