Learning is out of this world at Carpenter

3-2-1-Blast Off! At least that’s what Carpenter Elementary students did last month as they explored the solar system at their winter Intersession.
As part of ‘Blast Off to Outer Space,? students experienced their own planetarium with an assembly featuring Star Lab’s portable planetarium.
They also made edible planets, paper mach? planets and the sun for their hallway display, ate the phases of the moon with cheese and even made jet-packs.
Some students became astronomers and discovered their own constellations.
The out-of-this-world excitement continued with a visit to Cranbrook’s Planetarium and Museum, where the students learned more about the solar system and were able to see a real piece of moon rock.
They ended the week seeing the IMAX movie Space Station where they learned all about how the astronauts live up in space in the International Space Station.
