Local church hears the call of an angel

‘Operation Guardian Angel? received a big boost this August, as the beneficiary of the Unity Church of Lake Orion’s Tithing Program.
Supplies for the troops were collected throughout the month and ‘Guardian Angel,? led by Charlotte Cito of the Lake Orion Post Office, also received a sizable donation.
Cito said she is planning a mailing for Halloween that will be sent out by mid-October. That mailing is the start of a busy season for ‘Operation Guardian Angel,? with the holidays fast approaching.
The program is currently serving about 40 soldiers overseas with Lake Orion ties.
Cito said that, as always, donations of supplies and money to offset postage costs are in high demand.
The Unity Church learned of Cito’s effort through Board of Director’s Vice President Neal Porter, who knew of it through his work with the Veterans Memorial.
The church has a long history of giving back to the community.
‘We’re called a tithing church, which means we give away 10% of what comes into the church,? said Spiritual Leader Rev. David Lindsey.
Among other organizations that have benefited from the Tithing Program are the Lighthouse of Oakland County, Special Olympics and Oxford/Orion FISH.
The Unity Church of Lake Orion was founded by Wes and Pat Fuelling in 1997, and moved to its current location at 3070 Baldwin Road a few years later.
In addition to Sunday services at 10 a.m., the church offers activities throughout the week. For more information about the church, visit www.unitylakeorion.org or call (248)391-9211.
