Lake Orion High School was on lockdown for a short time on Friday morning, though things were back to normal shortly after noon.
‘High school administration became aware of a threat to a student through instant messaging,? said Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ken Gutman.
Gutman noted that the lockdown was simply a precautionary measure and teachers continued with regular activities during the lockdown.
A canine unit and several Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies reported to the scene, including Lt. Bruce Naile.
‘We did an investigation and, fortunately, we were able to locate the source of the threat and found it to be false,? Naile said.
An OSCD report listed the incident as a ‘possible bomb threat.? Deputies were on the scene for about two hours.
Naile said the responsible was a 15-year-old student at the school. He was released to the custody of his parents, but will almost certainly face criminal charges.
‘We are going to deal with it in as stern a manner as possible,? Gutman promised.
‘We are very happy that it turned out to be a false threat,? he added. ‘In the end, it wasn’t a big story.”
Events scheduled for Friday night at LOHS continued as planned and students finished out the day as they normally would.
