Major Murray appointed to Oxford School Board

After sifting through a total of six applicants for the vacant trustee position on the Oxford School Board, Major Murray was sworn in at their Dec. 12 meeting.
The position was opened after former trustee Judy Kubina resigned in November to pursue a career in paralegal.
Murray, who is a resident of Brandon Township, said a member of the high school staff suggested he apply for the open position.
‘I considered it and determined that serving on the board would be a good way to serve the community in an area of immediate need,? he said.
As the rookie on the board, Murray said he has a lot to learn. ‘After serving for a while and building credibility with the other board members and the community, if I then notice an area in which we can improve how we handle issues or make decisions, then I will make those recommendations to my colleagues,? he said.
Right now, Murray’s goals as a school board trustee are ‘to maximize the education provided by the Oxford School District.?
‘As a new member, my individual goal is to be properly prepared to deliberate and vote on all policy and oversight issues which come before the board,? he said.
Although this is his first experience serving on a board of any kind, Murray has been quite active in the Oxford Athletic Boosters.
He also helps with the scoring at home wrestling meets and said he and his wife, Amy, who is the manager for the Polly Ann Trail, are active in supporting the extracurricular activities their children participate in.
His daughter, Jordan, is a junior at OHS, while his son Nicholas graduated last June.
Oxford School Board President, Colleen Schultz, said there was ‘an outstanding field of candidates? to pick from and that they knew Murray would be ‘a wonderful addition to our board.?
‘We are so fortunate in our community that there are people that care that much and that are willing to serve,? she said.
