Many LOHS grads getting noticed at the next level

A championship cemented what many people across the state already knew about the Lake Orion baseball program.
But it’s not just the success of the high school team this past year that has people talking, as some past Dragon talents continue to make headlines.
Ryan Goleski nearly made a major league roster earlier this year and is currently playing with the Akron Aeros in the Cleveland Indians organization.
Two Dragon alums also took home hardware on the college fields this year.
Michigan first baseman Nate Recknagel helped his team advance to the Super Regionals, where they lost to eventual champion Oregon State.
Recknagel was the MVP of the regional versus Vanderbilt, a second team All-Big 10 selection and Michigan’s offensive player of the year.
Neil Medchill hit well over .400 for the season for Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Arizona, where he was a first-team Junior College All-American and earned a Silver Slugger award from Louisville Slugger.
‘Individually, they are both great players and great people,? Lake Orion Coach Andy Schramek said.
Both players are also former catchers for Schramek, and have since converted to first base.
‘If you look at the catching talent that we’ve had, it’s pretty impressive,? he said.
Other former Dragons currently playing in the college ranks include Bobby Clouse, Steve Garver, Josh Regits and Brent Skiba.
Randy Frye, who was drafted by Seattle, will undergo surgery this summer and hopes to resume a professional career next year, according to Schramek.
