DOLBY Marie Elizabeth, born March 9, 1913, to Robert and Effie Rigdon, passed peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 103 years, 4 months and 29 days.
She was living in Canterbury on the Lake – Southminister Independent Living in Waterford at the time of her death. Marie was born in Portland, Oregon and lived most of her young life in Ashland, Oregon moving to Michigan five and half years ago. Her family were Oregon pioneers traveling by wagon train to Oregon in the 1860s. Marie attended Ashland College and worked in the hospitality industry. Marie was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Sashabaw Plains Chapter. Marie was an adventurous soul, who took her first hot air balloon ride at 101, rafted Oregon’s Rogue River rapids as well as riding an elephant for her 90th birthday. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Frank Carson, Bill Bates and Bill Dolby. She is survived by her sister-in-law Phebe McManama and nephews and nieces in Central Point, Oregon. Marie will be missed by her Canterbury family and Bill and Joette Kunse and their family.
A celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Clarkston United Methodist Church with Reverend Laura Speiran and Father Bill Hale officiating. Marie believed that flowers are for giving to the living, so please consider giving flowers to someone you care about.
