The Road Commission for Oakland County will close Maybee Road between Clintonville Road and Capaldi Circle in Independence Township starting approximately May 4 for major resurfacing of the road.
The project will include pulverizing the existing asphalt pavement and then replacing it with new asphalt pavement.
There will also be repairs to curbs and gutters along the road as well as to the approaches to some driveways and side streets.
Pedestrian crosswalks will be upgraded to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The project is expected to be completed and the road re-opened in late June.
During the closure, the detour route for through traffic will be Baldwin Road to Clarkston Road to Clintonville Road, back to Maybee Road and vice versa.
The project is expected to cost just over $1.6 million and will be paid for primarily with funds from the Independence Township road millage with additional funds from RCOC.
Once this project is completed, RCOC will resurface the segments of Maybee both east and west of this segment, including the segment from Dixie Highway to Clintonville and from Capaldi Drive to Baldwin in Orion Township.
