The annual ‘Mamon Ride,? a charity motorcycle ride led by Kaz Mamon, took off up M-24 this past weekend to raise money for the Fowler Camp for special needs kids.
The ride started at noon on Saturday at the Post Bar on M-24 in Auburn Hills and proceeded some 55 miles north to the camp.
Mamon said some morning rain dissuaded some riders from attending, but over $6,000 has been raised from the event so far.
‘For all those that came out for the kids, it was great,? he said.
Performers throughout the day at the camp will include ‘Badd Habitz,? ‘The Sax Maniacs,? ‘Wild Fire,? and William Reynolds.
Mamon said the Fowler Camp, celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, is ‘one of Michigan’s hidden secrets.?
‘Last year alone, they had over 1,200 kids go through the camp,? he said.
For those unable to attend this past weekend but wanting to help, Mamon said donations are being accepted to the ‘Fowler Center? at PO Box 443 in Clarkston (48347), for the construction of a school at the camp (the $6,000 raised from the ride is all going to that project as well).
Mamon pointed out that all donations are tax-deductible. He also encouraged those interested to visit his website at www.mamonride.com.
