The Orion Lodge #46 F & A M (Free and Accepted Masons) and the Michigan Masonic Motorcycle Association are gearing up for their fourth annual benefit ride to Frankenmuth, scheduled for Sunday, August 5.
This year’s ride will benefit the Veterans Memorial Fund of Lake Orion, which will receive all of the proceeds after expenses.
‘This is the first year the money is going to the Veterans Memorial,? noted Orion Lodge #46 member Mark Meyer.
Past recipients include the Lake Orion Police Department, the Orion Township Fire Department and The Thin Blue Line. The event raised $1,000 last September for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 Unit.
This time around, the event kicks off with breakfast at 9:30 at the lodge, followed by a ride to Frankenmuth for lunch, a ride back to the memorial for a ceremony and then dinner at the lodge.
Lodge member Leon Richardson said those not interested in the ride portion can still participate in the breakfast and dinner at a very reasonable price.
The ride, with breakfast and dinner included, will cost $30 per rider, and $45 with a passenger, if paid before July 29. After July 29 it will be $35 per rider and $50 with a passenger.
‘We’re hoping to have over 100 motorcycles,? Meyer said, noting the Board of the Orion Veterans Memorial is also looking forward to the big day.
In addition to the motorcycle ride, the Orion Lodge has also held a golf outing for many years to raise scholarship money.
