OHS senior needs fund for trip to Washington D.C.

Oxford High School Senior Cody Shumaker has been selected to represent Michigan as a National Youth Delegate to the 2010 Washington Youth Summit on the Environment (WYSE) at George Mason University from July 11-16.
But he needs the public’s help getting there.
Shumaker has been trying to raise the money for the last couple of months, but he is falling short of his goal and needs help raising enough money to attend the trip.
So far Cody has only raised $200 out of the $1,900 that is needed for the trip.
Shumaker had applied for a scholarship to go onto the trip when he found out he was selected, but it was denied the first time because he had missed the April 1 deadline.
The WYSE is a unique student leadership conference designed to develop and encourage future leaders in the important field of environmental studies and conservation in the 21st century.
The week-long program, held at George Mason University’s state-of-the-art campus, will encourage and inspire young leaders from across the country who desire a unique experience focused on successful careers in this dynamic and important field.
Shumaker joins a select group of only 150 students from all over the country honored with the opportunity for an intensive study of leadership in environmental science and conservation.
He was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in leadership in the sciences and conservation studies.
With the distinguished faculty, guest speakers and direct access to elite D.C. practitioners, the WYSE offers scholars and student leaders an unparalleled experience.
Donations to help Shumaker with his trip can be mailed to Cody Shumaker, 642 Overlook Dr., Oxford, MI 48371.
