Lake Orion resident Amy Stowe, an an employee of POH Medical Center in downtown Pontiac, recently received the honor of Mentor of the Year for her outstanding volunteer work at Pontiac Central High School as a mentor through Mentoring Solutions.
Mentoring Solutions is a school-based mentoring program that provides mentoring throughout Metro Detroit. The time Amy devotes to understanding her mentees? needs makes her a mentor who goes the extra mile.
According to Mentoring Solutions, ‘Amy constantly keeps her mind open to new opportunities and resources that will serve her students best. Amy not only consistently visits with her mentees, she writes them positive reinforcement letters as well.?
‘Many children are lacking positive support and consistency from an adult; Amy is that ray of light for the youth she works with. Through her actions and words she respects, admires, and takes pride in who her students are today and who they can become in the future. ?
Beyond mentoring and providing mentoring support, Amy has also worked with the United Way Committee at POH for the last three years, and also donates blood on a regular basis.
