Oxford Pediatrics settles into new home

When it comes to her patients, Dr. Devyani Khambete likes to treat all of her children like they were her own.
That mind-set, coupled with her mission to provide first-rate medical care, is what makes Khambete’s Oxford Pediatrics a successful practice in northern Oakland County.
‘My philosophy is to really try to understand where the parents are coming from, find out what it is they need and try to tailor a treatment they can live with,? she said.
Oxford Pediatrics, which is affiliated with St. Joe’s Hospital in Pontiac and Troy Beaumont, has been in Oxford for three and a half years and last year moved to their new location above Starbucks at 51 S. Washington St.
They cover complete pediatrics from newborns to 20-year-olds.
She’s even seen children she treated in pre-school graduate from high school.
‘It’s just amazing,? she said. ‘I like to get to know the kids.?
From sports physicals to sick visits ? you name it, Oxford Pediatrics does it. Khambete’s partner at her practice is Dr. Parvathi Sivaram, who specializes in allergy and asthma.
Khambete graduated from medical school in Bombay, India in 1992 and finished her residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit in 1996.
She joined a pediatrics practice in Waterford 11 years ago and decided to bring her pediatrics experience to Oxford where she felt it was needed.
‘There are so many kids here,? she said. ‘It makes no sense for them to drive to Rochester, Troy or Clarkston to get medical care.?
One area of children’s health Oxford Pediatrics takes seriously is nutrition, given childhood obesity is becoming more and more of a problem.
? We try to provide a partnership with the parents to really help that child grow to his or her maximum potential.?
