Parting is such sweet sorrow

It was a bittersweet night on Tuesday for the Oxford School Board, as they reluctantly approved the retirement of superintendentVirginia Brennan-Kyro in June after seven years in Oxford.
Treasurer Doug Myer expressed his appreciation to Brennan-Kyro for the leadership she’s shown him over the years.
“You’ve helped me understand my job and I’ve had the utmost faith in your decisions in leading this district,” he said.
Jim Schwarz, director of curriculum, joked that he hadn’t talked to the superintendent all week ever since he heard the bad news.
“I’m still in that kind of (state of) denial, but that time has to come at some point,” he said. “I wish you the best.”
Trustee Pam Phelps gave her best wishes to Brennan-Kyro and joked that she hopes she finds a warm place to spend her retirement.
“I could not possibly wish you to stay here and suffer through this Michigan weather,” she said.
Brennan-Kyro thanked all of the board members for their kind words, and even joked that she’d be “barking commands” as she drove away on her last day.
“I have had just a great run in my career,” she said. “It’s been wonderful.”
