Piesko signs with Lake Superior State

Oxford High School senior Doug Piesko is off to play for the Lakers.
It might not be the Los Angeles Lakers, but Piesko, a co-captain of the varsity golf team, signed his letter of intent to play golf for the Lake Superior State University (LSSU) Lakers.
‘I’m very glad to become a Laker,? Piesko said. ‘I have been looking forward my whole life to play college golf and there is no where better to do it than at Lake State.?
Playing for LSSU was an easy decision for Piesko since he spends a lot of time up north at his family’s cottage. He said that he loved the atmosphere and the campus location already. It was an added bonus that they were one of the first schools to offer a commitment to him.
LSSU golf coach Jamie Davison was thrilled that Piesko signed to play for the Lakers.
‘He is solid and doesn’t have a lot of flaws in his game,? Davison said. ‘He has one of those games where there is a lot going on, but nothing that is going to get him in trouble.?
He added that he is looking forward to mixing him with his current group of players and thinks he should be a great fit with them.
‘We’re a young team starting next year when he comes in. The oldest student on the team is only going to be a junior…so he (Piesko) is going to fit in just fine with the guys we got,? Davison said.
Davison had been keeping an eye on Piesko as he started to make his climb through the junior ranks.
‘He is a good all-around student,? Davison said, which is one thing that he looks for in his players. ‘He comes from a good, well-recommended family.?
Davison heard about Piesko after talking with an alumnus who works with Piesko’s father.
While at Oxford, Piesko was a scholar athlete during the 2009-10 school year and won the 2009-10 Keith Award for the athleticism, academics, sportsmanship and preparedness he showed in and out of the classroom.
He was also a 2010 honorable mention for the all-Oakland County team.
When he wasn’t hitting the links for Oxford, he was playing on the Top 50 Junior Tour. Piesko was named the 2010 player of the year for the tour, winning three events and coming in second three times.
He also had a first place finish for the Adam’s junior tour and a second place finish for the Plantations Jr. Tour event in Heritage Hills, PA, where he shot rounds of 74 and 72.
‘He plays more junior golf than anyone I have seen around that area,? Davison said.
While at LSSU, Piesko plans on majoring in Accounting with a minor in Homeland Security.
