Children’s Park went to the dogs on Aug. 26, as Downtown Lake Orion presented the annual Dog Days of August celebration.
Around 100 dogs participated in the doggie parade, which went down Anderson to Shadbolt, to Broadway, and then back to the park. In addition, 17 dogs were in the running for this year’s doggie mayor.
Two of the leading vote getters didn’t follow proper procedure on their campaign literature, causing a brief delay in the vote counting.
The leading vote getter that followed correct procedures was Misty Gladstone, who was appointed ‘Doggie Mayor? at Monday’s Lake Orion Village Council meeting.
Arnie (Arnold Palmer) Neslage, owned by Tom and Kay Neslage, received the most votes but didn’t follow the proper procedure on his campaign sign.
He graciously agreed to serve as Doggie Mayor Pro-Tem, and was also sworn in at the council meeting.
‘I’m shocked,? said Misty’s owner Katie Gladstone, who started Misty’s campaign at the beginning of August.
She said she was looking forward to participating in upcoming parades with Misty.
