Plenty to run for locally

For area residents that may be considering a run at local government ‘now may be the time. All seats on all township boards are up for grabs this election year.
Candidates seeking to run for the Atlas, Brandon and Groveland township boards must file petitions by 4 p.m., May 15 at the respective township offices in order to be placed on the August primary ballot.
In Brandon Township, the clerk, treasurer and supervisor positions, as well as four 4-year trustee terms are up for election. Candidates must have a minimum of 20 and maximum of 50 petition signatures from registered township voters.
In Atlas and Groveland townships, the clerk, treasurer and supervisor positions are also up for election, but there are only two 4-year trustee terms in each township. Candidates in Atlas and Groveland must turn in no less than three valid petition signatures, and no more than 10.
Petitions and affidavits of identity can be picked up and returned to each township clerk’s office. The Atlas Township office is located at 7386 S. Gale Road; Brandon Township office is 395 Mill St., Ortonville; and the Groveland Township office is located at 4695 Grange Hall Road, Holly.
