Raid your ‘Best Friend’s Closet?

Deciding what to wear to a special occasion can be one of the hardest decision women and young girls can ever make.
It’s an even harder decision when the dress you want is equal to the amount on your monthly paycheck.
That’s why it’s time to check out My Best Friend’s Closet, owned by Oxford resident Kristen Hulbert.
Located in an intimate boutique in Hulbert’s home on Sunset Blvd., My Best Friend’s Closet offers gently used special occasion semi-formal dresses, formal dresses and cocktail dresses to rent.
It’s the perfect solution for all those bridesmaid, prom and homecoming dresses that usually only get worn once and then collect dust in your closet.
Hulbert said the idea to create a boutique for renting special occasion wear began when she was a young girl.
Coming from a family of six children, she often couldn’t afford special dresses for dances or scholarship pageants.
She found a woman who would rent her grown up daughter’s dresses to Hulbert and her sisters for $5 or $10 for the evening.
‘I never forgot that she was kind enough to do that,? she said. ‘Regardless of what your status is, your size is, or your income, you should be able to find affordable clothing that suits you. This is what I want to bring to Oxford.?
My Best Friend’s Closet has size 2-18 and various colors, styles and designers to pick from.
The rental costs range from $30- $75, depending on the dress, and include dry-cleaning.
‘There’s something for everyone? she said.
To rent a dress from her boutique, Hulbert requires an appointment. After a dress is chosen, the client will sign a contract and leave a specific deposit. When the dress is returned in the same condition, the deposit will be returned.
Hulbert likes to have individual appointments so she can give her customers ‘one-on-one attention.?
‘I love to make people feel good about themselves,? she said. ‘I can help you find the right outfit for your style and your figure.?
But My Best Friend’s Closet isn’t just for teens in search of the perfect prom dress.
Hulbert said she gets frequent visitors who need special outfits for cruises or business parties.
Women who are looking to revamp their closet, but don’t want to throw out their gently used dresses, can make an appointment with Hulbert to keep her inventory circulating monthly.
What’s more, whatever the resale value of the dress is, you will be credited that amount to your ‘account? at My Best Friend’s Closet for you to use when you wish.
‘I think that’ll really help women to purge their closets and keep my inventory fresh,? she said.
Aside from rental clothing, Hulbert also offers make-up and hair services. A woman can get a professional make-up application for $20 and an up-do for $35. Hulbert’s current Homecoming Special combines the two for $50.
