Renters abandon home, leave cat without food or water

When Edith Waller checked on a home she rents out at 6 Moyer St. last week, she was ‘disgusted? at what she found.
Apparently, her tenants had moved out without telling her, leaving behind their furniture, boxes and even pets.
Waller, of Addison, found an approximately 200-gallon aquarium with dead fish floating in it, as well as a cat that obviously hadn’t eaten or drank water in days.
‘I think people need to look at animals like their children or their loved ones and not abandon them,? she said, noting it had to have been at least four days since her tenants left.
Waller and her daughter immediately took the young, orange and white cat to a veterinarian in Romeo for a medical check up.
The 1-year-old cat, who was named G.Q., lives with Waller now and is happy to be in a loving home. ‘He’s a great cat,? she said.
Now, Waller must face a court battle against the former tenants, who insist on using the home as a makeshift storage facility.
She wants people who have animals to know how important it is to take care of their pets, and to take them to a shelter instead of neglecting them.
‘They have pain and hurt, too,? Waller said.
If you cannot take care or your pet anymore, please be a responsible owner and surrender your pet to the Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care (3600 W. Auburn Road) or call (248) 852-7420 if you suspect animal cruelty.
