The Lake Orion Sunrise Rotary Club is off and running, with their official charter night just a few weeks away.
Formed in October, the club moved its meetings from King of Kings Lutheran Church to C.J.’s Sandbar in January.
‘That’s when we really took off,? said longtime Rotarian and club director Roger Bentlage.
The group meets at C.J.’s every Thursday morning for breakfast at 7:15, followed by their meeting at 7:45 (see below).
Bentlage said there is still an opportunity for community members to join as charter members of the group. They have 20 members now and will be celebrating their official ‘club? status on May 18.
Festivities for their charter night will take place at Canterbury Village and includes dinner and a cash bar. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
Last week, the club elected officers at their weekly meeting, appointing some familiar faces in the community to key positions.
The newly elected officers are Loran Coffman (President), Mike Palmer (Vice President), Peggy Bartz (Secretary), Anna Esckelson (Treasurer) and Janet McPeek and Bentlage (Directors).
After a nine year absence, Bentlage is excited to see a club back in Orion.
He said the old club, which had been around for over 50 years was a prominent figure in the community.
‘We will get back there,? he promised.
