Schrauger Home Project receiving huge amounts of support, donations

Since the announcement on Oct. 30 that The Schrauger Home Project was being spearheaded, support has continued to pour in, prompting an announcement last week by Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson that over 50 percent of the needed goods and services to build a home for the family have been donated.
‘I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for the Schrauger family, especially in just a week,? Patterson said. ‘I can’t thank enough the businesses and individuals who have stepped forward to help this family through their trying days.?
The Schrauger Home Project, an assembled group of concerned business owners and citizens, hope to get Cliff and Vicki Schrauger into a new home in six months, mortgage-free.
According to Patterson, along with Clarkston builder Forrest Milzowis, who is heading up construction on the project, they hope to break ground for the basement before the end of the year.
Those interested in helping with The Schrauger Home Project can visit www.oakgov.com/house, and visit the registry that lists all the needed items and services for the completion of the house.
The site includes lumber, bricks, concrete, excavation, plumbing and windows, as well as suggestions for other ways to help.
As well as involvement in completing the home, the community has also been involved with various fundraisers for the family.
This week, the Lake Orion High School cross country team will be hosting the Schrauger Memorial 5K Run on Saturday morning (search Schrauger at www.lakeorionreview.com for more), as well as the Orion Oxford Eagles hosting a spaghetti dinner benefit later that day.
The dinner will be held from 1-7 p.m. Saturday at Orion Oxford Eagles 3613, 317 W. Clarkston Road.
Dinner is $7 per person and features spaghetti, salad, roll, dessert and beverage. 100 percent of the proceeds with go towards the Schrauger family.
For more information about the spaghetti benefit, Orion Oxford Eagles can be reached at (248)693-7917.
Donations will also be accepted at the event and checks should be made out to Schrauger Family Fund.
Cliff Schrauger, who is a minister, said his family is overwhelmed by the love and support the community has shown his family.
