For the fifth straight year, students from Scripps Middle School rounded out their year by taking a research trip to Paint Creek in downtown Lake Orion.
One-hundred students participated over two sessions on June 6, as part of the science curriculum’s unit on human impact on the environment.
Teacher Carol Binggeser said the students were broken down into four groups, studying everything from land usage to the creatures that live in the area. One group was responsible for chemical tests, while another studied things like vegetation.
The trip was in partnership with General Motors and part of the Clinton River Watershed Council, where the class reported their findings. Binggeser noted that the class took a field trip the week prior to GM, where they learned about the assembly line and their water-treatment facility, among other things.
Four students from Eagle Creek Academy also attended the afternoon session, and the school hopes to be involved with their own project next year.
