Too often, the people who created so many of the activities communities enjoy are forgotten as age and time pass.
The July 15 Concerts in the Park program will change all that with Senior Appreciation Night, an acknowledgment and message of thanks to seniors whose participation allowed the event to flourish for the past 26 years.
‘We’re taking this opportunity to thank our senior citizens who have supported our concerts for years,? said Chamber Event Planner Terri Bendes. ‘We’re trying to make this an evening put together for them. They’re the ones who brought out their children who attend now as adults? It’s a multigenerational thing.?
Bendes explained that the entertainment was chosen to coincide specifically with music the older patrons grew up enjoying.
The Big Chief Chorus opens with barbershop tunes, followed by The Stardust Swing Band playing music of the 1930s and 1940s.
All attendees 65 years and older will receive a special gift, one correlating to women and the other practical for men. Other gifts include a discount coupon book to use around Clarkston and a raffle ticket for a gift basket.
A group photo commemorating the event is tentatively planned at intermission.
The remaining Concerts in the Park Series dates are July 15 and 22 at Depot Park in downtown Clarkston. The Local Talent Spotlight runs from 6:30?6:55 p.m. followed by the main act from 7?9 p.m.
