It might be a ‘Five O’Clock World,? but in just over one week, we’ll make exceptions at four o’clock and eight o’clock.
Those two times (p.m. of course) on Sept. 16 are when Danny and the Juniors, The Vogues and Charlie Thomas and the Drifters will all hit the stage in Lake Orion for the Orion Senior Center’s Oldies Rock ‘n Roll Concert.
The Performing Arts Center at Lake Orion High School will host both shows.
‘All funds raised will go to programs at the senior center,? Senior Center Director Lisa Sokol said.
All ranges of ticket prices (from $25 to $45) are still available for both shows.
All three bands performing are original Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Famers, and they still get geared up for each and every performance.
‘Once I hit that stage, I forget that I’m old,? joked Stan Elich of The Vogues.
Elich is quite familiar with the other groups and said the show should be a fun one for performers and audience members alike.
‘I’ve worked with Danny and the Juniors a bunch, and Charlie Thomas and the Drifters a few times,? Elich said. ‘We look forward to working with them again.?
The Vogues do about 110 dates a year, and have been to southeast Michigan many times. But this date is one Elich’s had circled for a while.
‘We’re going to do all of The Vogues? hits, of course,? he said. ‘On top of that, we do a nice Beach Boys medley, a Motown medley, and a tribute to America at the end.?
The concert also features a unique meet and greet session that all ticket holders are invited to attend after each session.
‘I always enjoy the meet and greets,? Elich said. ‘I would have done it myself if they hadn’t put it on.?
Pictures and CDs will also be on hand to purchase from the three headlining acts.
The concert is being put on in partnership with Classic Productions, Inc., and AM 580 Motor City Favorites.
Those involved said both shows should be sellouts.
Bus tour companies are putting together group packages and many area restaurants will be offering discounts to individuals or groups for dinner the night of the concert.
On a personal note, Elich said touring recently has been even more special than usual.
‘It’s kind of neat that we’ve gone full circle and my son is singing with us now,? Elich said of his son Tony.
Expect more great memories to be created on Sept. 16.
