Skiers split vs. Wolves

It might have taken them a long time to get out on the slopes, but it hasn’t taken the Lake Orion ski teams a lot of time to get going once they got up there.
In a matter of just a couple of weeks, both teams have finished the regular season portion of their schedule, with the girls compiling a 7-2 record and the boys sitting at 5-4 after an impressive win over rival Clarkston last Thursday.
The Dragons and Wolves were actually tied at 19, forcing them to go to a fifth skier to determine a winner. Lake Orion’s Ian Prochaska turned in a time of 40.62 to give the Dragons the victory.
‘We’ve lost some meets where we skied really well and won some meets where we didn’t ski well,? Coach Derek Delzer said, synopsizing the regular season.
‘Each week we’ve been improving,? he added.
Stephen Sims, Brian Arsen, Zach Prochaska and Jake Phillips have established themselves as Delzer’s top-four skiers.
On the other side, Emily Loerch, Ashley Simpkins and Julia Jabzcenski have been impressive for the girls. But Delzer said it is the next three skiers, Kelsey Lepper, Sara Kish and Shannon Mooney, that have really come through for the team.
‘They’re the ones that get us the points to win,? he said.
The team has two big meets on tap for next week at Pine Knob. The OAA meet will be held on Monday and regionals will take place in a day long event on Thursday.
Their regional includes state title hopefuls Clarkston and Brother Rice, among others.
‘We just have to be ‘on? for those big meets coming up,? Delzer said.
