Spikers beat Lahser, fall to Clarkston

It was a mixed bag of results for Oxford’s varsity volleyball team.
On Thursday, Sept. 22, Oxford faced Bloomfield Hills Lahser at home and would sweep the Knights in three sets.
Oxford won game one 25-20, game two 25-16 and game three 25-21.
‘It truly was a team effort with every rostered player contributing in a positive way,? varsity volleyball coach Kristi McDevitt said.
Senior captain Lindsey Leppek led the Wildcats with 10 kills, while sophomore Darien Bandel followed with nine kills and senior captain Katie Bearse finished with seven. Senior setter Amanda Bauman had 20 assists for Oxford, while senior Maggie Rourke finished with 26 digs and senior captain Olivia Krause had 13 digs to lead the Wildcat defense.
It was a different story with the Wildcats traveled down the road to Clarkston to battle the Wolves.
Oxford got off to a slow start, losing the first set 25-13. Following 25-18 win by Clarkston in set two, Oxford gave it everything they had in set three, but fell short 30-28.
Bearse led the offensive attack with nine kills, while Bandel and Leppek each contributed seven kills.
Leading the way defensively for the Wildcats was Rourke, who had 20 digs.
Oxford currently sits at 2-1 in the Oakland Activities Association Red Division, and is 13-12 overall.
They travel to Rochester on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before returning home to face Rochester Adams on Thursday, Oct. 6.
Oxford will then host Bloomfield Hills Lahser, Notre Dame Prep, Grosse Pointe North, Lapeer East, Capac and Chippewa Valley on Saturday, Oct. 8 in a tournament.
