Students trade desks for tents

Students at Daniel Axford Elementary curled up by the campfire, snuggled in their sleeping bags and huddled together in tents last Friday as a ‘reward? for their hard work and good behavior in Chad Boyd’s second grade class.
Boyd decorated his room with pop-up tents, a faux campfire and a clothes line covered with swimsuits to create a fun outdoor atmosphere for his students.
He even altered his curriculum for the day to go along with the camping theme.
For instance, for math, his students created graphs based on what color fish they caught during a fishing game and how many nuts were in the trail mix.
The second-graders also read their favorite books around the camp site.
Boyd said he enjoys doing special days like this because it makes learning fun and gives him an extra rapport with his students.
