The Lake Orion Waldon Middle School Cadet Band traveled May 22 to Sandusky, Ohio to compete in the national Music Showcase Festival competition.
These seventh and eighth grade musicians competed with ensembles from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Michigan.
Judges awarded the cadet band first place in the Class A Middle School/Junior High category, receiving a rating of Superior, the highest possible rating.
In addition to the overall first place trophy, the band also earned a trophy for Best Trumpet Section and two awards for outstanding solo work went to musicians Adam Fasbinder (trumpet) and Allison Diven (flute).
The Cadet Band had a very busy month. It traveled to Rochester Adams High School on May 6 to perform a concert with Rochester Van Hoosen Middle School and performed with the Waldon Middle School Orchestra at Lake Orion High School on May 19.
It closed out the year with all of the Waldon bands on June 1 with a concert at WMS.
