Swimmers 15th at state meet

A pair of top-five finishes by Katrin Vetter propelled Lake Orion to a 15th place finish at the Division I State Swimming and Diving Finals, held last Saturday at Oakland University.
The team registered 54 points, three behind Northville and three ahead of Grand Haven (a full list can be found at www.mhsaa.com). Ann Arbor Pioneer blew past the field to win for a record seventh straight year.
Vetter, a senior, placed third in the 50-yard freestyle event, finishing in 24.04 seconds and registering 16 points for the team. She finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle, earning 14 points with her time of 53.02.
Junior Jenna Dorey placed 13th in the diving competition, netting four points for the team with her 320.70 points in the event.
The remaining Lake Orion points came in the relays.
A team of freshman Nicole Kudla, sophomore Liz Eesley, junior Emily Loerch and Vetter earned 12 points for placing 11th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:41.46).
Loerch, freshmen Sarah Stiel and Christine Forrest, and Vetter teamed to finish 13th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:42.94). They earned eight points.
The Dragons finished ahead of Clarkston and Stoney Creek, teams they competed against in the OAA II this season.
