Swimmers cut down times in meet against Avondale

The Wolves celebrated their 11 seniors during their win over Avondale last Thursday, 147-23.
“There were some great surprises from our team and some great time drops we weren’t expecting,” said Amber Miller, Clarkston Boys Swim and Dive head coach.
For individual events, in the 50-yard freestyle Valen Kurmaniak finished in first place, 22.85; Avery Kersjes, second place, 25.20; Owen Brown, 25.27; 100-yard freestyle, Kurmaniak, first place, 50.76; Owen Guzal, third place, 58.34; Andrew Musson, fourth place, 59.57; 100-yard butterfly, Zachary Yamanoha, first place, 55.79; Martin Cardoba, second place, 1:12.42; Max Atteberry, third place, 1:22.37; 100-yard backstroke, Kersjes, first place, 1:08.1; Connor Spitznas, second place, 1:18.7; Jackson Lambouris, third place, 1:22.88; 100-yard breaststroke, Brown, first place, 1:06.89; Canyon Roodbeen, second place, 1:13.97; Stephen Catania, third place, 1:21.63; 200-yard freestyle, Roodbeen, first place, 2:10; Andrew Craig, third place, 2:35.84; and Trent Schmeling, fourth place, 2:38.56; 200-yard IM, Musson, second place, 2:30.49; Zac Montgomery, third place, 2:43.23; Craig Popiolek, 2:44.57; 500-yard freestyle, Yamanoha, first place, 5:25.92; and Benjamin Kornas in second place, 6:55.62.
“We did have Valen in 50-yard free and 100-yard free just shy of a division one state cut,” said Miller. “Same with Zach – just underneath a state cut. We are hoping to get those cuts in the next couple meets. Valen qualified last year and it got cancelled the day before so he didn’t get to compete.”

For 1-meter diving, Kevin Hardtke finished in first place with 194.77 points, Ryan Putnam, second place, 148.72 points; and Lucas Breeden, third place, 118.65 points.
For relay events, in the 200-yard medley the team of Kurmaniak, Brown, Yamanoha and Kersjes in first place in the time of 1:47.59; team of Craig, Catania, Musson, Cordoba, second place, 2:07.58; team of Lambouris, Spitznas, Atteberry, and Jeffrey Ellingsworth, third place, 2:23.3.
For the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Kersjes, Kurmaniak, Guzal, Brown, first place, 1:39.97; the team of Spitznas, Lambouris, Kornas, Roodbeen, second place, 1:54.39; the team of Craig, Schmeling, Charles Rowe, and James Lazar, third place, 1:57.56.
For the 400-yard freestyle relay, the team of Guzal, Craig, Cordoba, Yamanohoa, first place, 4:00.51; the team of Catania, Kornas, Atteberry, Roodbeen, second place, 4:28.86; the team of Montgomery, Schmeling, Ellingsworth and Musson, third place, 4:31.98
The Wolves opened the season with a 130-53 loss to Detroit Catholic Central, Jan. 28.

In 1-meter diving, Hardtke finished in third place with 149.3 points, Putnam, fourth place, 145.55 points; and Breeden, fifth place, 126 points.
For relay events, in the 200-yard medley team of Kurmaniak, Brown, Yamanoha and Kersjes in third place in the time of 1:49.11; 200-yard freestyle relay team of Kersjes, Kurmaniak, Guzal and Brown finished in third place, 1:42.24; 400-yard freestyle relay team of Guzal, Craig, Cordoba and Yamanohoa, second place, 3:48.56.
The Wolves host West Bloomfield on Thursday and Lake Orion on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
