Swimmers end season with loss to strong team

The girls varsity Wildcat swim season came to end with a 116-69 loss against West Bloomfield on Thursday, Oct. 20.
‘I thought our last duel meet of the season went well,? varsity head coach Jackie Rank said. ‘We lost against a very strong team.
The Wildcats managed to win two individual events, the 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle, during the meet. Sophomore Elizabeth Wilkins won the 100 breaststroke in a personal best time of 1:19.44, while freshman Taylor Curtis won the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:04.21.
Other individual results include:
200 Medley Relay – Oxford’s A relay of freshmen Sydney Liverance, Wilkins, sophomore Rose FitzCrane and freshmen Abbie Fredericks finished second with a time of 2:15.02.
200 Individual Medley – Liverance came in second with a time of 2:41.79. Junior Caitlyn Wroblewski and Wilkins finished fourth and fifth respectively.
50 Freestyle – Sophomore Haley Kornburger finished second with a time of 24.99, while senior captain Amanda delaPaz and Fredericks came in fourth and fifth respectively.
Diving – Sophomore Elise Ormiston finished fourth with 135.40 points.
100 Butterfly – Kornburger came in second with a time of 1:00.32 and FitzCrane was fourth for the Wildcats.
100 Freestyle – Curtis finished second with a time of 58.08, while delaPaz and senior captain Claire Patrell finished fourth and fifth respectively.
500 Freestyle – Sophomore Kaitlyn Barber came in fourth for Oxford with her time of 6:46.36, while sophomore Melissa Skelton finished fifth for the Wildcats.
200 Freestyle Relay – Oxford’s A relay of Curtis, delaPaz, Patrell and Kornburger finished second in a time of 1:48.28. The B relay of Liverance, Wroblewski, Murphy and Fredericks finished third.
100 Backstroke – Liverance finished second with a time of 1:15.14. Wroblewski was fourth for Oxford.
400 Freestyle Relay – Oxford’s A relay of Curtis, delaPaz, Patrell and Kornburger finished second in a time of 3:55.09.
The next chance to see the swimmers in action is in the Oakland Activities Association White division championship, which take place at Oxford High School on Wednesday, Nov. 2 through Friday, Nov. 4.
Swimming prelims are on Nov. 2. The divers take center stage on Thursday, Nov. 3 while the swimming finals take place on Nov. 4. All events begin at 6 p.m.
