Swimmers get first OAA win

The Varsity Swim team captured it’s first ever Oakland Activities Association victory with a 130-53 victory over Ferndale on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
‘If they (the girls) keep working how they are right now, I think they will be surprised by what they can accomplish,? said Varsity Swimming Head Coach Jackie Rank.
The Individual results are as follows:
200 Medley Relay: The A relay of sophomore Miranda Murphy, junior Emily Gilmore, freshman Haley Kornburger and senior Anna Daves took first with a time of 2:11.58. The B relay of freshman Melissa Skelton, freshman Elizabeth Wilkins, sophomore Laura Zorle and junior Amanda delaPaz finished third.
200 Freestyle: Senior Captain Sarah Skelton took first for the Wildcats with a time of 2:16.71 and sophomore Casey Keils was second.
200 Individual Medley: Kornburger finished first for Oxford with a time 2:21.90. Wilkins and junior Brooklyn Allen came in second and fourth respectively for the Wildcats.
50 Freestyle: Senior Captain Jenna Mallard finished second for the Wildcats with a time of 26.98 while delaPaz came in third and Daves fourth.
Diving: Senior Jade Casadei came in first with a total of 143.95 points while senior Kayla Pollard came in third place.
100 Fly: Kornburger came in first place for the Wildcats with a time of 1:02.32. Zorle came in second and sophomore Sammi Kurk was fourth.
100 Free: Mallard finished first for Oxford with a time of 1:00.50. Keils and Daves finished third and fourth respectively.
500 Free: S. Skelton came in first place with a time of 6:10.81 while freshman Kati Flanagan and Allen finished fourth and fifth respectively.
200 Free Relay: Kornburger set a school record in the 50 Freestyle with her leadoff time of 25.92. Kornburger, delaPaz, Mallard and Skelton finished first in the A Relay with a school record time of 1:51.23. The Wildcat B relay of Murphy, Keils, freshman Rose Crane and Zorle finished third.
100 Backstroke: The Wildcats swept the event, with Murphy finishing first with a time of 1:22.63. M. Skelton came in second and sophomore Courtney Lavender was third.
100 Breaststroke: The Wildcats swept the event with Zorle finishing first with a time of 1:20.13. Wilkins and Gilmore finished second and third respectively.
400 Free Relay: The A relay of Daves, Keils, Skelton and Mallard took first with a time 4:19.03. The B relay of junior Brittany Basela. Flanagan, Gilmore and delaPaz finished second.
The girls have two home meets next week. They host Brandon on Tuesday, Sept. 14 and Hazel Park on Thursday, Sept. 16.
