Lakes Community Credit Union held a teen financial workshop last week and, based on the response, more workshops are in the works.
‘We had a total of 35 people, 21 of whom were students,? said Maureen Poniewierski of LCCU.
‘We talked about financial goals and financial planning,? she added. ‘And what a credit score is and why it’s important.?
Other topics discussed included identification theft, credit cards and car loans.
‘We tried to make it more like a business seminar,? Poniewierski said.
The workshop included dinner and awards for those that actively participated. Poniewierski, along with three LCCU managers oversaw the event, which ran an hour-and-a-half.
‘It was fun,? Poniewierski said. ‘The kids even said it could’ve been longer.?
More workshops are likely to follow. Contact Maureen at (248)814-4000 for more information.
